Assistant Project Manager - Commercial Construction (JN -) New Jersey, USA

Salary: USD
65000 - USD
90000 per annum

Union County, NJ | In-Person | Full-Time | $60,000 – $90,000

We are a well-established, employee-owned specialty general contractor founded in 1960 with ten regional offices across New York, New Jersey, New England, Maryland, and North Carolina. We have built a 60-year reputation delivering high-quality commercial construction across banking, healthcare, corporate, retail, and industrial sectors — and we're growing.

What we need: An ambitious Assistant Project Manager ready to learn the full lifecycle of commercial construction alongside experienced PMs. You'll support project execution from estimating through closeout, develop your skills across every phase of the job, and grow into running your own work. This is a real career path — we invest in APMs who want to become PMs.

  • $60,000 – $90,000 base salary + bonus potential
  • 100% employer-paid family and individual medical, dental, and vision
  • ESOP — employee stock ownership plan. As the company grows, so does your stake.
  • 401(k) with employer contribution, HSA, life insurance, paid time off
  • In-house union carpentry crews — more schedule control and quality execution than a typical GC
  • Cell phone reimbursement
  • Mentorship and clear path to Project Manager
What You'll Do
  • Support PMs across the project lifecycle — estimating, bidding, buyout, construction, and closeout
  • Assist with takeoffs and budget development; build toward bidding independently
  • Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and change events
  • Help process AIA billings, lien waivers, and subcontractor and vendor invoices
  • Maintain project schedules and project documentation
  • Attend project, subcontractor, and owner meetings; take and distribute meeting notes
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Support bonding, insurance, and contract front-end review
  • Help drive the punchlist and closeout process through final turnover
  • Build relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors
Requirements
  • 1–3 years of construction project management or assistant PM experience (GC-side preferred)
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and CSI format
  • Exposure to AIA billings, lien waivers, bonding, or insurance — full mastery not required
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • In-person, Springfield NJ — no remote or hybrid
Preferred
  • Degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture
  • Internship or co-op experience with a general contractor
  • Exposure to commercial interiors, banking, healthcare, corporate, retail, or industrial sectors
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Conversational Spanish
  • Procore or similar construction management software proficiency

Qualified candidates will be contacted for a confidential interview.
