EHS Manager in Newark, NJ
Compensation Range: $147,000 - $180,000
Possible Bonus: 10%
The Role
Technically advise and lead EH&S practices and programs to protect employees, customers, and the environment. Champion comprehensive oversight for safety and compliance across manufacturing facilities, offices, laboratories, and pilot projects. Meet government safety regulations and industry standards, inspecting and evaluating equipment, environment, and processes. Promote understanding and adherence to all aspects of safety, leading the enterprise toward sustainable target zero.
Implement corporate Process Safety policies, standards, and guidelines. Facilitate and/or oversee process hazard analyses and revalidations. Participate in and conduct audits to ensure compliance with OSHA General Duty, Process Safety Management, EPA, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities- Review and implement corporate EH&S programs, policies, procedures, training, and reporting.
- Champion organizational compliance, evaluating workplace environments, equipment, and practices of all safety standards and government regulations.
- Guide management of hazards associated with process safety management, ensuring a comprehensive program is maintained to integrate technologies, procedures, and management practices.
- Conduct chemical and SDS risk assessment as well as operations risk assessments to specify engineering controls and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement environmental strategies in the workplace, auditing and analyzing environmental practices for sustainability (including pollution control, waste management and recycling).
- Undertake regular statutory compliance audits, PSM, JSA process reviews, and QA assessment of safety management systems.
- Direct accident investigation programs, report or review findings, note trends, and develop programs to improve performance.
- Provide and communicate employee safety training and communication programs, contingency planning, emergency response, and H&S evaluations/implementation.
- Set environmental and safety priorities and goals consistent with corporate objectives.
- Specify EH&S guidelines and directives for internal governance and internal controls.
- Act on quantitative measurements and coordinate solutions, presentations, and detailed reporting on safety performance and continuous improvements.
- Establish cross‑functional teams to coordinate delivery of compliant, safety performance.
- Define solutions which support EHS policy integration into facility operations.
- Determine improvements which provide reliable, successful EH&S programs.
- 8-10 years management, safety, and/or operational experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, occupational health and safety, or a related field of study.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of food processing, GMP, mechanical engineering, vegetable oil, and hydrogen plant operations helpful.
- Lead and direct the work of others with strong team orientation, ability to influence, and collaborate with all levels of leadership.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal and communicative skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and ERP applications. - Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal and state programs, processes, and program implementation strategies.
- Experience and judgment to perform a variety of complex tasks.
- Skilled in organization, prioritization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to coach and work directly with plant managers and supervisors at each location providing the necessary EHS support.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently. Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish is highly desired.
