The School Nurse maintains health records and documents student health issues/events in accordance with New Jersey state law for students in non-public school settings. This individual provides on-site medications, health screening, first aid, referrals and triage to students and staff.

Essential Functions

Contribute to The Cooperative’s commitment to equity and continuous quality improvement that aligns with the agency’s mission, goals, and advancement.

  • Effectively cross‑collaborate with agency staff, leaders, and board members to foster a comprehensive approach of information sharing, working committees, and collective representation.
  • Routinely disseminate relevant information, presentations, training, and learning opportunities for internal program and agency staff.
  • When applicable, will participate in relevant staff development opportunities (trainings, summits, conferences, etc.) to increase skill development, elevate program goals, and engage staff members with timely key learnings.
  • Maintains health records consistent with state and local requirements.
  • Provides emergency care for injuries and illness in the school as determined by the professional judgment of the nurse.
  • Administers medication/treatment to students as per specified approved written policy.
  • Performs health screenings as mandated by the state with referrals and follow up as needed.
  • Communicates with faculty, parents and students to serve the best interest of the students regarding health services.
  • Acts as a resource person for students, their families and faculty.
  • Compiles reports related to services delivered in schools and submits reports to Nurse Coordinator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of New Jersey
  • Certification in School Nursing not required but preferred
  • CPR and BLS certified
  • Two years of school nursing experience preferred
  • Culturally competent experience working with diverse populations
  • Valid driver's license, car and current insurance policy
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to see to read documents and hear well enough to communicate with others
  • Must be able to write, type on a computer, and use a telephone
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Additional requirements to be determined with input from Director and HR
