Job SummaryDrivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business. They transport material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial drivers pick up containers filled with waste or recyclable material, sometimes weighing over 1,000 pounds. They navigate high‑traffic, congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, using highly skilled backing maneuvers.
Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuvering in residential environments. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, and high‑traffic roadways, often operating in tight overhead environments.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements and all local, state and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks utilizing the standard DVIR.
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required.
- Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, closed or impassable streets, heavy receptacles, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
- At least 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Class A Commercial Driver License with an air‑brake endorsement, upon hire.
- Class B Commercial Driver License with an air‑brake endorsement, upon hire.
