Position Title School Counselor
Reports To Principal
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated by supervisor on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities and duties of the position

Education, Training and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in position related area is required.
Enrollment in an accredited school counselor preparation program and completion of a minimum of 24 graduate semester hours of that program; or,
Completion of a master's degree in addiction; career; clinical mental health; clinical rehabilitation; college counseling and student affairs; marriage, couple, and family counseling; or rehabilitation counseling from a regionally accredited college or university and enrollment in an accredited school counselor preparation program to complete additional master's level courses needed to add school counseling specialization.
* Must Hold or be Eligible to hold a North Carolina Teacher Licensure
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. School Counselors demonstrate leadership, advocacy and collaboration by:
* demonstrating leadership in the school;
* enhancing the counseling profession;
* advocate for schools and students and
* demonstrating high ethical standards according to the American School Counselor Association's Ethical Standards for School Counselors (http://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).)
2. School Counselors promote a respectful environment for a diverse population of students by:
* fostering a school environment in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults;
* embracing diversity in the school community and the world;
* treating students as individuals; recognizing students are diverse and adapt their services accordingly
* working collaboratively with families and significant adults in the lives of students.
3. School counselors understand and facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program by:
* aligning their programs to support student success in the Common Core Curriculum and North Carolina Essential Standards;
* understanding how their professional knowledge and skills support and enhance student success;
* recognizing the interconnectedness of the comprehensive school counseling program with academic content area a disciplines
* developing a comprehensive school counseling program that is relevant to students.
4. School Counselors promote learning for all students by:
* demonstrating knowledge of how students learn;
* plan their programs for the academic, career and personal/social development of all students;
* using a variety of methods to deliver information to students;
* helping students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills
* using and promoting effective listening and communication skills.
5. School Counselors will actively reflect on their practice by:
* analyzing the impact of the school counseling program;
* linking professional growth to the needs of their school, students and program goals
* functioning effectively in a complex, dynamic environment.
6. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, write, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
