This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives, and performing assigned tasks while providing legendary customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)As a Team Member, it is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, as you must be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs.
- Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
- Thank the Customer
- Engage with the customer and/or pet
- Advise on products or services
- Make it Memorable
- Perform a variety of duties during 95% of your day, including but not limited to:
- Operate cash register/computer following cash handling procedures
- Recover merchandise
- Participate in freight process
- Complete Plan-o-gram procedures (merchandising, sets, resets)
- Assemble merchandise
- Perform janitorial duties
- Execute price changes/markdowns
- Assist customers with loading purchases
- Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, including sanitizing tanks and caring for animals as required
- Complete all documentation related to these duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
No experience required. Retail experience and/or pet/live animal knowledge are strongly preferred.
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Team Members must be able to read, write, and count accurately regardless of education level.
- Pet/Live Animal, pet food, pet product knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.
- Generally working indoors with moderate noise levels.
- Hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt) with adequate lighting and temperature.
- Work shifts typically no less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours.
- Maintain a safe and productive environment, adhering to safety guidelines.
- This position is non-sedentary.
- Must have the stamina and ability to move throughout the store and outdoor areas safely and quickly.
- Operate equipment related to job duties efficiently and safely.
- Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.
- Stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders frequently.
- Move throughout the store for entire shifts.
- Access all store areas safely.
- Operate store equipment such as computers and cash registers.
- Read, write, and count accurately for documentation.
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Process merchandise through the point-of-sale system.
- Move and transfer items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Complete all required training and certifications.
