185-day contract, Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day

Position Summary:

In this role, you will perform instructional duties and provide direct services to students and parents, operating under the supervision of a teacher or another educational professional. Your contributions will support the educational goals of the institution by ensuring the effective delivery of educational programs and services.

Essential Functions:

* Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities.

* Implement, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs in accordance with lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.

* Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.

* Monitor individual classrooms, halls, library, playground activities, etc., for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

* Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.

* Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress.

* Confer with the teacher for the purpose of assisting in the evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives.

* Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.

* Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.

* Organize and label materials and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.

* Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed.

* Type, file, and duplicate materials.

* Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.

* Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.

* Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.

* Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.

* Carry out therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special education instructors, psychologists, or speech-language pathologists.

* Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.

* Assist in bus loading and unloading.

* Take class attendance and maintain attendance records.

* Grade homework and tests and compute and record results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices.

* Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.

* Prepare lesson outlines and plans in assigned subject areas and submit outlines to teachers for review.

* Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories and assist students with hardware and software use.

* Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress or problems.

* Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs.

* Conduct demonstrations to teach such skills as sports, dancing, and handicrafts.

* Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment.

* Laminate teaching materials to increase their durability under repeated use.

Skills & Abilities:

Education:

Minimum of an Associate's Degree, 60 hours of college credit, or a passing score on the Paraprofessional Praxis Exam.

Experience:

Experience in educational settings preferred but not required.

Computer

Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and educational technology.

Certificates & Licenses:
Teaching-related certifications preferred.

Other Requirements:
Must successfully complete ASP/FBI and Child Maltreatment background checks.

Physical Demands:

* Frequent lifting, carrying, standing, walking, sitting, handling, and reaching.

* Occasional climbing, crawling, squatting, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

* Mostly indoor settings in school classrooms and facilities.

* Ability to manage and supervise students in various settings, including large group assemblies.
