City of Northglenn - Municipal Services Worker Sanitation II or III

City of Northglenn seeks a highly motivated and outgoing Municipal Services Worker II or III – Sanitation. The role involves operating sanitation vehicles, managing trash waste collection, recycling, and disposal, and ensuring compliance with City and safety regulations.

Position Highlights

  • Requires a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (MSW II); 3+ years for MSW III.
  • Hourly pay: $25.22 – $29.00 (MSW II), $26.58 – $31.90 (MSW III).

Duties and Responsibilities MSW II Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of sanitation vehicles and equipment, including side-load refuse trucks to collect and transport solid waste, recyclables, and yard debris.
  • Perform routine pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and basic maintenance to ensure vehicles and equipment remain in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established routes, schedules, and safety procedures while maintaining compliance with all traffic laws and City regulations.
  • Respond to public inquiries, service requests, and complaints in a courteous, professional, and customer‑focused manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including timesheets and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). reports.
  • Ensure adherence to all City policies, environmental standards, and workplace safety protocols.
  • Assist in training lower‑level sanitation staff as assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor.
  • Safe operation and maintenance of equipment: side-load automated refuse trucks, forklift, front loader, skid steer, portable generators, and compressors.
MSW III Responsibilities
  • All duties of MSW II plus independent operation of all sanitation vehicles: side-load refuse trucks, roll‑off trucks, grapple hook trucks, rear‑load refuse trucks, and recycling collection trucks.
  • Perform routine pre‑ and post‑trip inspections with basic maintenance to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Knowledge of roll‑off operations across multiple service areas (residential routes, parks, recycle center operations, event logistics, and Water Treatment Plant service needs).
  • Assist in training and mentoring lower‑level sanitation staff.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor.
  • Safe operation and maintenance of equipment: side-load automated refuse trucks, roll‑off trucks, grapple hook trucks, rear‑load trucks, recycling collection trucks, forklift, front loader, skid steer, portable generators, and compressors.
Education and Experience MSW II Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in sanitation, waste collection, or a related field.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug test.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
MSW III Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal sanitation or a related field.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug test.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
