Amentum is currently seeking a qualified Aircraft Mech 3 in support of the U.S Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island. The Aircraft Mech 3 manages, inspects, performs, and directs organizational level maintenance/ modifications on EA-18G aircraft, sub-systems, supports equipment, related weapons systems and ALSS. The worker also advises team members and solves unusual maintenance problems by running analysis and tests on missiles, airframes, engines, flight controls, pneudraulic, fuel, electrical/electronic systems, ALSS, etc.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, ventilation and heating systems and ALSS equipment. Repair and/or replace aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, ALSS, machines, and equipment. Read and interpret manufacturers and maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

Perform hourly, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections. Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments. Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks, tests engine operation, using testing equipment. Work involves: replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment;

removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassemble and install engine in aircraft. Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.

This Mech 3 supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, may service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, may specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in engine repair.

Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. Required to make entries in aircraft logs and records and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts. Inspect the aircraft for tools and other foreign objects that could potentially put the aircraft or aircrew pect the aircraft to certify that all maintenance performed by the team is correct and complete.

Certify entries in Aircraft/Engine Logbooks made by contractor employees. Assign project/priority codes and direct cannibalization actions to meet the unit’s maintenance plan and daily flight schedule. Perform inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, surface finish removal, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation services supporting the following aircraft and aeronautical equipment systems:

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Must have completed military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum

  • Seven (7) years actual and recent aircraft experience required.

  • Three (3) years F/A-18 experience. Three (3) years F/A-18E/F/EA-18G QAR/CDQAR with maintenance control supervisory required.

  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems and be able to perform general Organizational Level maintenance of the assigned aircraft.

  • Possess a level of experience necessary to inspect all aircraft assigned, direct flight line/deck operations, certify Aircraft/Engine Logbook entries and possess one or more of the specialties:

  • Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems

  • ARS pods

  • Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold, Hydraulic/Pneumantic, and Mechanical flight Control System
