What You'll Do

Develop high-quality lifting plans and evaluate lifting activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of heavy lifting projects. Provide technical support to lifting activities through interpreting technical diagrams, applying engineering principles, and providing technical advice on lifting operations. Cooperatively work as a member of integrated project teams with the Project Engineer, other disciplines, outside contractors, construction forces, customers and management.

Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and working closely with maintenance and operation teams on ongoing lifting activities. Design lifting equipment including custom lifting devices and custom below the hook lifting devices. Defining standards for and participating in the monitoring and assessment of lifting operations. Promoting a continuous improvement culture within the team by recommending improvements in procedures and work practices. Providing technical advice on matters pertaining to lifting operations deviations or non‑compliance.

Providing support to Maintenance Teams as necessary in the detail and execution of preventative and corrective maintenance activities on lifting equipment. This position requires self‑motivation and skills in understanding and application of lifting principles, theories, and concepts. Working knowledge of other related disciplines and how those disciplines interface with lifting systems is also required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science [Chemistry, Physics, or related] from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET AND 2 years of relevant experience. OR MS in Engineering /Physical science.

    OR PhD in Engineering /Physical science.
  • Experience creating engineering lift packages for industrial lifts
  • Experience sizing and specifying lifting equipment
  • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post‑graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
  • 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job‑related, and 1‑year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Structural Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET
  • A Professional Engineering License (PE)
  • 5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Experience with Elevator code compliance and design.
  • Experience with engineering calculations/analysis associated with lifting equipment design (structural analysis, static calculations, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, hydraulics, and control systems related to lifting equipment
  • Knowledgeable in respective technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
  • Ability to work in a project team environment and communicate well with other disciplines, customers, and stakeholders
