Description
The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos has an opening for a Senior Network Engineer on the DISA Defense Red Switch Network team in support of an enterprise VoIP management system - GSM-O II contract at Fort Meade, MD
. The successful candidate will have a Network Engineering background responsible for designing, documenting, testing, deploying, and maintaining the IP network solutions within an enterprise environment on a high‑paced, fast‑moving program.
As a Network Engineer, the candidate will be a subject matter expert (SME) in all things related to the IP Network technologies, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability of WAN and LAN infrastructure across multiple environments (DEV/TEST and Production). The role includes providing technical assistance, administering configurations, upgrading software, developing and/or updating related documentation, ensuring applicable STIGs are applied and documented, conducting and supporting testing, recommending enhancements, and troubleshooting issues associated with network components.
Required security clearance: U.S. citizenship with an active TS/SCI.
Daily Responsibilities- Work closely with DRSN engineers and site personnel for coordinating deployments and maintenance actions.
- Evaluate system network requirements and make appropriate technical recommendations.
- Proficiency with Juniper networking devices, including establishing remote management connectivity, updating operating systems, coordinating and performing verification tests (BER or burn‑in tests), configuring alarm and system profiles, and configuring/testing various layers of the OSI model.
- Assist IA personnel regarding network security and SSP maintenance to ensure network configuration meets all IA requirements.
- Perform installation, testing, and acceptance (IT&A) of network components directly through GUI/CLI or interface systems, guiding remote testing with on‑site field engineering support.
- Monitor network performance.
- Support deployments as required.
- Maintain expert knowledge of IP principles.
- Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of related experience or Master’s degree with 10+ years. Education and training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience remotely configuring networking or transport devices.
- Ability to map IP addresses and subnets for networking devices or create in‑band/out‑of‑band management connections.
- Ability to interpret network topology diagrams and proposed device configuration changes.
- Knowledge of configuring, deploying, and supporting HAIPE/NSA Type 1 Encryption devices and associated element managers.
- Knowledge of configuring network devices with element managers such as Juniper Space, Security Director, Juniper Routing Director, Solarwinds NCM.
- Security+ certification.
- Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance.
- Current DoD 8570 certification at IAT level II (Security+ CE).
- Proficiency with Juniper IOS or other IP/transport specific management tools and general practices.
- Basic Linux administration or command‑line interface (CLI) and scripting skills.
- Experience with network device configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform.
- Experience managing configurations with Juniper Space, Routing Director, or Security Director.
- Expertise in IP technologies, networking architectures, methodologies, and Voice Services.
- Proficiency with at least two or more of the following devices: SONUS SBC, Juniper MX5 routers, Juniper SRX firewalls, Juniper EX switches, KG175, KG250, Ectocrypt Black.
- Proficiency with at least one of the following tools:
Solar Winds or Junos Space. - JNCIA or JNCIP certification.
- Proficiency with RADIUS, SNMP, and NTP protocols.
- General knowledge of TLS and PKI.
