The Physics and Astronomy department is hiring an undergraduate student to aid in the organization, design, build, and implementation of equipment to streamline the Advanced Labs mission. The student should have experience in soldering, making circuit boards, building optical instrumentation, and using tools.
Required Qualifications- Completed PHYS 2010/2210, PHYS 2020/2220, and PHYS 3190
- Ability to complete training sessions on a regular basis
- Interest in physics and teaching others
- Basic understanding of data collection, spreadsheets, and computer skills
- Good understanding of scientific and mathematical concepts
- Physics experience preferred
- Prior experience as a Physics Department lab aide
- Knowledge of care, handling, and use of physics laboratory equipment
Standing for sustained periods, moving about to accomplish tasks, operating equipment, expressing or exchanging ideas, and extending hands and arms in any direction.
Physical RequirementsMedium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Visual AcuityColor, depth perception, and field of vision required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, using a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
ConditionsNone. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
