Job DescriptionReports to: Director of Student Services
Job ObjectivesPlans, implements, and evaluates student learning experiences using a differentiated curriculum. Helps students manage behavior, identify goals, and make appropriate choices. Encourages parental involvement.
Minimum Qualifications- Valid Ohio teacher’s license or certificate appropriate for the assignment.
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
- Documented evidence of a clear criminal record.
- Training in physical and behavioral management techniques.
- Teaches scheduled classes and creates effective learning experiences that align with the district’s adopted course of study.
- Complies with state model policies and procedures for the education of students with disabilities, working with staff to ensure services in the least restrictive environment.
- Implements effective classroom management procedures and upholds the student conduct code.
- Implements behavior modification plans and counsels students to acknowledge and manage responsible personal conduct.
- Develops and maintains a positive learning environment, stimulates student interest, and helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.
- Evaluates the needs of students, plans interventions, and varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
- Communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress.
- Helps students develop critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, and creativity skills.
- Collaborates with other teachers, sharing knowledge and resources to enhance the educational process.
- Incorporates the effective use of technology in instruction and records management activities.
- Helps students take full advantage of the learning environment (e.g., adapted equipment).
- Helps students enhance performance on state tests and/or alternative assessments.
- Maintains accurate records and submits grades, assessments, and lesson plans on time.
- Evaluates students, assigns grades, prepares periodic progress reports, and consults with parents as needed.
- Uses support personnel to address concerns such as excessive absences, at‑risk behavior, mental/physical health, and family/peer relations.
- Co‑plans and/or co‑teaches with general‑education teachers to expose all students to grade‑level standards and necessary supports.
- Provides information and recommendations to the Evaluation Team Report (ETR) based on data from multiple sources.
- Helps prepare and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for eligible classroom students.
- Supports a full range of educational options and resolves issues related to student participation in peer‑group activities.
- Serves as a resource to teachers with special‑education students and reviews intervention strategies.
- Works with community services for student programs (e.g., law enforcement, health care, child welfare).
- Schedules home visits when necessary.
- Modifies test protocols as needed (study guides, reading questions, providing additional time).
- Participates in professional growth opportunities to stay current with innovative instructional strategies.
- Prepares classroom, requisitions supplies, and promotes proper use and care of school property.
- Upholds board policies and administrative procedures, promoting a favorable image of the district.
- Monitors use of the internet to ensure compliance with district guidelines.
- Respects privacy, maintains confidentiality of privileged information, and reports suspected child abuse as required by law.
- Takes precautions to ensure student safety, never leaving students unsupervised.
- Supervises non‑classroom activities and participates in after‑school events as directed.
- Completes required training by appropriate deadlines (e.g., Vector, Gifted, Science of Reading).
