Wildlife Care Specialist – Seasonal (Non-Exempt)

Rate: $13.00

Pay Grade: SEA | Starting salary based on prior experience and education.

Location: Penitentiary Glen Reservation, Kirtland, OH 44094

Position Description

Under the direction of the Wildlife Care Manager, the Seasonal Wildlife Care Specialist provides hands‑on support in the care and rehabilitation of wildlife. Duties include meeting nutritional needs, following nursing/weaning schedules, providing post‑operative care, administering medication, conducting triage, supporting pre‑release conditioning, maintaining appropriate housing, and assisting with animal releases.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Providing care for native Ohio wildlife and wildlife rescues.
  • Ensuring animals’ needs are met throughout the rehabilitation process, including participation in rehabilitation best practices and research.
  • Handling animals in a manner that maximizes safety for both the animal and staff.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in zoology, wildlife management, animal care, or a related field.
Position Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of native wildlife.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to interact with others with tact, courtesy, and professionalism, especially when addressing challenges with the public, coworkers, and managers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule, up to 40 hours per week.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Agency’s liability policy.
  • Background check required.
