Chloeta is hiring an Architectural Historian that brings expertise in historical architecture, preservation techniques, research methodologies and identifies, evaluates, and documents historic structures and landscapes, and providing recommendations for their preservation, restoration, or adaptive reuse on cultural resource projects.

- Assists with preparation of Level II HABS reports including photographs, plans, drawings, history, and historic context
- Conducts historical research on architectural styles, construction techniques, and historical contexts related to project sites.
- Evaluates the historical significance of architectural resources in accordance with local, state, and national criteria for historic designation.
- Collaborates with project teams to integrate preservation strategies into project planning and execution.
- Advises on the restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse of historic structures, ensuring compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
- Stays informed of developments in architectural preservation, conservation techniques, and regulatory changes affecting cultural resource management.

- Understanding of architectural styles, construction techniques, historical contexts, and preservation theories. This includes familiarity with the evolution of architectural trends and the ability to identify and categorize historical periods and styles.
- Proficiency in conducting historical research using various sources, including archives, libraries, and digital databases. Ability to analyze and synthesize information from diverse sources to draw conclusions about the historical significance and context of architectural resources.
- Skilled in documenting historic properties and landscapes through written reports, architectural drawings, and photographs. This includes the ability to create detailed and accurate descriptions of buildings' physical appearances and conditions.
- Knowledge of preservation planning principles and practices, including the ability to recommend appropriate treatments for historic properties, such as restoration, rehabilitation, or adaptive reuse. Ability to advocate for the preservation of cultural resources within the context of project development and community planning.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local historic preservation laws, regulations, and guidelines, including the National Historic Preservation Act, the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and CEQA/NEPA requirements.
- Ability to address challenges related to integrating historic preservation goals with modern development needs. This includes creative problem-solving and the ability to negotiate solutions that balance preservation with practical considerations.
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in history, historic preservation, architecture, or related field to cultural resources
- Required: At least five (5) years of work experience in architectural history
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk for report preparation and computer work.
- Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and GPS/GIS equipment
