South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Dental Assisting Program Director.

The Dental Assisting Program Director reports directly to the Dean of Allied Health & Nursing. The successful applicant will be responsible for dental assisting programming which includes leadership and administration of the dental assisting and expanded function dental auxiliary programs as well as the on-campus dental clinic.

This position is directly responsible for the daily operations of the programs including fiscal, personnel, and student management as well as the planning, implementation, and evaluation of program outcomes and meeting accreditation standards for the dental assisting programs through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC).

The Director provides program leadership in support of the college's mission, vision, core themes, and strategic plan, creating and maintaining an environment that is collegial and conducive to teaching, learning, professional growth, and collaboration.

What You'll Do

The Dental Assisting Program Director will:

Demonstrate multicultural competence including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Support the college's mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
Advocate for diversity and inclusion in all aspects of program development, implementation, review and improvement.
Create and maintain an environment that is collegial and conducive to teaching, learning, professional growth, and collaboration.
Administer the program and clinic budgets to ensure adequate program resources, accurate accounting, and fiscal responsibility to the College.
Coordinate the faculty/staff assignments and the delivery of courses and programs to meet the needs of students and the community. Supervise and evaluate the work of full-time and adjunct faculty teaching those courses and in accordance with the Faculty Negotiated Contract.
Coordinate the hiring, supervise the work, and conduct annual evaluations of classified and part-time hourly staff reporting directly to the Director.
Act as state representative on assigned state and regional committees; coordinate activities related to national and state accreditation of dental assisting programs; writing and/or maintaining required reports and self-studies.

Maintain knowledge of Washington State and national standards for dental assisting and associated programs and provide leadership to ensure that the College has evidence that such standards are met.
Maintain, collect data and provide information on compliance to state and national approval and accrediting bodies for all dental programs.
Coordinate the review and assessment of programs and student learning outcomes and participate in college-wide assessment activities.
Coordinate faculty involvement in the process of developing and reviewing curriculum to ensure integrity, rigor, and currency as well as to satisfy the expectations of the College's Instructional Council and Washington State and national standards for dental assisting programs.
Promote faculty/staff input and communication as part of decision making processes including the administration of the program budget.
Prepare written and oral reports related to activities and accomplishments in area of responsibility.
Ensure dental assisting program files and student records are maintained in accordance with college, state, and federal guidelines.
Collaborate and work closely with the Dean of Allied Health & Nursing to support the coordination of department and college curriculum and resources.
Collaborate and work closely with the Dean of Allied Health & Nursing and Human Resources to engage in personnel recruitment activities, coordinate screening and hiring processes, and oversee processes for faculty development and performance review, all in accordance with college policies and state requirements for professional-technical teaching personnel.
Collaborate and work closely with enrollment services to coordinate recruitment, advising, and admission processes for the dental assisting programs.
Collaborate and work closely with the Dean of Allied Health & Nursing to ensure that public information regarding the allied health programs is accurate, clear, consistent, and accessible.
Collaborate and work closely with the dental assisting program’s advisory committees, as well as other stakeholders to provide opportunities for communities of interest to have input into program processes and decision-making
Provide instruction in courses as needed.
Oversight of the campus Dental Clinic operations.
Perform the duties of HIPPA Privacy Officer for the college


Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree or higher
Five years' work experience as a dental assistant, including two years of experience in higher education.
Instruction in educational theory and methodology (e.g. curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation).
Occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles either as a dental assistant or working with a chairside assistant.
Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds while creating a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment where diversity is understood and valued.
Experience in the use of software applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel or other computerized spreadsheet applications.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Dental Assisting National Board Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or a dental hygienist with a CDA and experience with fourhanded dentistry.
Conflict Management & Engagement -- The ability to engage cultural conflicts that occur between individuals and groups.
Servant Leadership Development -- The ability to share power, put the needs of students or employees first and help people develop and perform as highly as possible.

Preferred Qualifications:

Dentist (DDS/DDM) licensed to practice in the State of Washington.
Experience in teaching and learning, systematic program evaluation, and use of data to enhance and improve processes, especially in the context of state and national standards for dental assisting education programs.
Demonstrated success in effectively managing and communicating the results of decision-making processes.
