Nature of Work: This is manual labor involving the servicing of light through heavy equipment and assisting automotive mechanics in repair operations.

Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.

High school graduation or its equivalent AND Six (6) months of experience in general automotive servicing work OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Current certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in the automobile or medium/heavy truck special areas may be substituted for the general experience requirement.

Qualifications:

Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver learners permit at the time of employment. Must possess a valid class A commercial drivers license with N endorsement and air brake certification by the end of the probationary period. Must take and pass the City of Omaha forklift training class by the end of the probationary period. Must possess a Second Grade Hoisting and Engineers Certificate by the end of the probationary period.

Must be in possession of tools specified by the City which will be inspected and approved by a shop supervisor. Must be willing to purchase additional hand tools as required by the end of the probationary period, and thereafter as needed.

Pay Range: $20.22 with step increases to $27.29 Hourly

Examination Information: The multiple-choice/written examination will be held on a date to be determined. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 50%.

This will be weighted 100% in the final score.

Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of vehicle and equipment lubrication, tire changing and repair, and battery charging equipment and procedures

* Knowledge of the major mechanical parts of vehicles and equipment and their functions

* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in working on or near vehicles and equipment

* Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks

* Skill in the use of tools and equipment necessary to perform the work of the position

* Ability to understand oral or written instructions

* Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public

* Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software
