Job Overview
The City of Onalaska is hiring a Facility Maintenance Technician and a Lead Facility Maintenance Technician for Limited Term Employment positions. Scheduled hours vary by event and may include mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Employees are responsible for a variety of tasks related to building maintenance and event functions, performed under the guidance of the Building Supervisor.
Responsibilities- Set‑up and takedown of event equipment and return the building to its original condition before and after each event.
- Enforce Omni Center rules and safety protocols for the general public.
- Identify and report any building, equipment or supply issues to the supervisor or maintenance lead.
- Assist in ice maintenance (resurfacing, flooding, patching, edging) and other duties as needed.
- Maintain building cleanliness: bathroom cleaning, restocking, floor care, window cleaning, custodial duties and outside maintenance.
- Perform building opening procedures during events and ensure proper securing of the building each night.
- Provide excellent customer service, meet customer needs during events, and consult the supervisor as needed.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, build effective relationships with the public, associates, volunteers and staff; stay calm under stress.
- Contribute to teamwork, perform additional job‑related work and assist with special projects.
- Lead a crew in set‑up and takedown of event equipment; provide direction to part‑time staff when the supervisor is absent.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age 18.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Prior experience with facility maintenance, ice arena operations and/or custodial duties (required for Lead Facility Maintenance Technician).

CompensationWage range $14.00 to $19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, budget and position. No benefits are associated with these limited‑term positions. Flexible scheduling available.
