Accounting Assistant
Start your real estate accounting career with hands-on exposure to job cost accounting, construction draws, and the full month-end close — on a flexible, part-time schedule.
About the roleThe Accountant I is an entry-level role on the SRP accounting team supporting the day-to-day operations of our real estate development and property accounting functions. You’ll be the person who keeps the engine running — booking AP/AR transactions, coding expenses to the right job, helping pull together construction draw packages, and making sure the books are clean before close.
This is a part-time, hybrid role of 20–30 hours per week, paid hourly. It’s an ideal fit for a recent graduate, a returning professional, or someone balancing other commitments who wants meaningful, growth-track accounting work without a 40-hour-a-week commitment.
What you’ll do- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and on a timely basis.
- Code invoices and expenses to the correct projects, job phases, and GL accounts.
- Assist in compiling and maintaining supporting documentation for monthly construction draws.
- Perform basic bank reconciliations and assist with daily cash flow monitoring.
- Record and maintain accurate general ledger entries and supporting schedules.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes under the direction of senior accountants.
- Maintain organized digital files for audit and lender review.
- A sharp eye for detail — you notice when a number doesn’t tie out.
- A willingness to ask questions, learn the business, and own your work.
- Comfort working independently in a hybrid environment while staying connected to the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Basic working knowledge of US GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general comfort with accounting software.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work 20–30 hours per week, with a minimum one in-office day per week.
- Internship or prior exposure to real estate, construction, or property management accounting.
- Familiarity with job cost accounting concepts.
- Exposure to Yardi, MRI, Quick Books, Sage, or similar systems.
- Competitive hourly wage, commensurate with experience.
- Hybrid work environment — a mix of in-office collaboration at our Cottonwood Heights headquarters and remote work.
- Exposure to the full lifecycle of real estate development, construction, and asset management.
- Mentorship from senior accounting leadership and a clear path to expanded responsibility.
- A collaborative, low-ego team that takes the work seriously — and not itself.
