Job SummaryThe Contracts Manager is responsible for driving the negotiation and execution of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for utility‑scale solar and BESS projects. The role focuses on the commercial portion of the EPC contract process, collaborating closely with SOLV’s Legal Department to balance risk mitigation with business objectives. The position can be fully remote or based in San Diego Headquarters, with location details discussed during interviews.
Responsibilities- Conduct rigorous review and analysis of commercial terms in EPC contracts, ensuring critical terms and conditions are clearly identified, defined and aligned with SOLV’s objectives, standard terms and proposals.
- Proactively identify potential risks and liabilities throughout the negotiation process, and develop, create, and recommend modifications or approaches to mitigate risks.
- Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for contract‑related inquiries, building strong relationships with customers and cross‑functional teams.
- Collaborate with Legal, Pre‑Construction, Business Development, Finance, and Operations to negotiate contract terms with internal and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate associated exhibits and specifications, identifying opportunities to reduce risk, enhance efficiency, and maximize profitability.
- Analyze existing contract terms to uncover opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth.
- Own, manage, and improve the contract management process and system, ensuring accurate documentation, version control, and maintenance of contract files, including tracking milestones and obligations.
- Stay abreast of industry changes, codes, regulations, tariffs, and best practices to keep SOLV at the forefront of the market.
- Assist in developing and delivering reports on contracting performance, compliance, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Contracts Administrator, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years proven experience in contract management and review processes, preferably in the utility‑scale renewable energy or power generation industry.
- Strong understanding of utility‑scale solar and battery EPC concepts, standard scopes of work, and related risks.
- Strong understanding of commercial and legal principles, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret contractual terms and assess potential financial impacts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera P6, and other contract management software.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong commitment to ethical conduct, integrity, and professionalism.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working for a diverse multi‑disciplined company.
