We are seeking an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team and support the delivery of the An Suidhe Substation construction project in Inveraray and Lochgilphead, Argyll & Bute, for Balfour Beatty – Scotland Civils. The role involves managing all costs and revenue within your area of responsibility on a complex civil engineering project while ensuring value for money and the highest standards for our customer.
ResponsibilitiesCommercial Management & Governance
- Use Balfour Beatty’s ERP and digital systems to manage commercial data and project information.
- Measure, record and value work in accordance with industry rules and procedures.
- Prepare cost reconciliation statements and interpret specifications, drawings and Bills of Quantities.
- Build up estimates from first principles and agree measured works with subcontractors.
- Understand customer contracts and support stakeholder management.
- Review weekly and monthly programmes of work.
- Plan commercial activities to meet programme requirements.
- Collate cost/value information to support forecasting and reporting.
- Gather information to define procurement requirements.
- Manage subcontract inquiries, adjudication and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the wider project team, subcontractors and customers.
- BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
- CSCS (AQP/PQP) and MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB (or working towards).
- Experience managing costs and income on building or civil engineering projects.
- Ability to lead or support junior commercial colleagues.
- Strong commercial awareness, attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving.
- Smart working, including staggered start and finish times and up to 40% remote working where roles allow.
- 25 days paid annual leave (pro rata).
