Location: Inveraray

We are seeking an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team and support the delivery of the An Suidhe Substation construction project in Inveraray and Lochgilphead, Argyll & Bute, for Balfour Beatty – Scotland Civils. The role involves managing all costs and revenue within your area of responsibility on a complex civil engineering project while ensuring value for money and the highest standards for our customer.

Responsibilities

Commercial Management & Governance
  • Use Balfour Beatty’s ERP and digital systems to manage commercial data and project information.
  • Measure, record and value work in accordance with industry rules and procedures.
  • Prepare cost reconciliation statements and interpret specifications, drawings and Bills of Quantities.
  • Build up estimates from first principles and agree measured works with subcontractors.
  • Understand customer contracts and support stakeholder management.
Program & Planning Support
  • Review weekly and monthly programmes of work.
  • Plan commercial activities to meet programme requirements.
  • Collate cost/value information to support forecasting and reporting.
Procurement & Supply Chain
  • Gather information to define procurement requirements.
  • Manage subcontract inquiries, adjudication and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the wider project team, subcontractors and customers.
Qualifications
  • BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • CSCS (AQP/PQP) and MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB (or working towards).
  • Experience managing costs and income on building or civil engineering projects.
  • Ability to lead or support junior commercial colleagues.
  • Strong commercial awareness, attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving.
