Building Automation Design Engineers create design solutions for customer‑specific commercial building automation systems in new and existing facilities, and recommend productivity improvements that increase customer satisfaction and project profitability.

As a Building Automation Design Engineer, you will:

  • Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for higher education and K–12 education facilities, data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high‑rise buildings, and lab facilities.
  • Demonstrate expertise in engineering and contracting processes, including submittal requirements and documentation standards.
  • Attend internal and external meetings to support opportunities and contribute technical details to project designs.
  • Prepare design documents such as mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, system integration, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts.
  • Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third‑party integration devices using Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, Desigo, or BACnet.
  • Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks.
  • Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, etc.
  • Prepare engineering re‑estimates and collaborate with sales and management to ensure a shared understanding of the job scope.
  • Perform quality assurance and peer‑review engineering documents.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or state‑recognized GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in building automation (HVAC controls) design.
  • Ability to travel up to 35%.
  • Experience designing large, complex jobs with deviation using standard tools, products, and practices.
  • Knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continuous, permanent basis without company sponsorship.
  • Position hybrid with visits to local area office.
  • Occasional travel required for team gatherings, project kick‑offs, strategic discussions, or training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7+ years of building automation (HVAC controls) design experience.

Benefits:
Siemens offers health and wellness benefits. Pay range is $59,048 – $101,225 annually, depending on budget and candidate experience.
