About the RoleJoin the team shaping the future of SC Johnson Lifestyle Brands! Based in San Francisco and reporting to the Packaging Engineering Manager, the Senior Associate, Packaging Engineer plays a key role in creating the next generation of packaging for some of the world's most loved consumer brands. Your work will evolve from concept to solution, develop new packaging, support line extensions, and drive technical innovation that keeps our products fresh, functional, and sustainable.
You will collaborate across R&D, marketing, and supply chain to solve real‑world challenges and deliver packaging that delights consumers worldwide.
- Leverage new and existing packaging technologies to develop innovative solutions and elevate existing products, driving consumer appeal, ease of use, and shelf success.
- Plan and execute performance, reliability, and compatibility testing to validate component changes and ensure long‑term product quality.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams (R&D, Design, Marketing, Consumer Insights, Product Supply) to accelerate development and ensure flawless execution of new product launches.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including component specifications, finished goods specifications, and bills of materials, to support validation and production readiness.
- Apply strong technical acumen and analytical problem‑solving skills to diagnose packaging issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain uninterrupted production and consistent quality.
- Support commercialization of new packaging ideas by providing technical insights that strengthen consumer value, enhance sustainability, and align with business goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in packaging or another relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Materials).
- 3+ years of packaging engineering or product development experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
- Working knowledge of Design of Experiments.
- Knowledge of product‑development processes and experience with delivery‑system technologies such as aerosol formulation, emulsion chemistry, gel formulation, polymer chemistry, reaction products, surfactants, solvents, and builders.
- Technical competency in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging design and qualification, including product/environment compatibility, distribution and environmental testing, and manufacturing qualification.
- Excellent communication skills—oral, written, and storytelling to non‑technical audiences.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving abilities, risk anticipation and mitigation, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate complex, ambiguous situations.
- Expertise across multiple packaging disciplines: dispensing systems, materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements, plastic molding techniques, and product/environment compatibility.
- Knowledge of consumer testing techniques and execution of studies to evaluate product performance during use.
- Understanding of the evolving consumer market.
- Full‑time, regular business hours (Monday‑Friday).

San Francisco, CA. - Remote work available once a week after a 90‑day onboarding period.
