About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor to join our Ground Engineering Team at the Sizewell C project on the Suffolk coast.
Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable low‑carbon electricity.
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will support our project team to drive outstanding HS&W performance and contribute to our Zero Harm objectives. They will deliver expert HSW guidance and support, working closely with operational teams to develop bespoke risk‑based service agreements, undertake regular site inspections, and produce clear, accurate reports.
What you'll be doing- Fully understand and support delivery of UK HS&E Strategy.
- Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the BU Zero Harm Action Plan and Sustainability Action plan at business and/or project level.
- Support the delivery of the HS&E Key Performance Indicators at project and business level.
- Support work winning teams with quality and innovative HSW responses for bids, proposals and PQQs.
- Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near‑miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company requirements.
- Complete a local and bespoke risk‑based Service Level Agreement with each project, kept under quarterly review.
- Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix.
- Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned and unplanned HSW inspections, reviewing project performance against the UK HSW Regulatory Framework and UK Business Management System requirements.
- Undertake regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management to ensure appropriate risks and opportunities have been identified and are being implemented.
- Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification). May consider candidates working towards one of these qualifications with relevant on‑site experience.
- IOSH membership.
- Ability to influence and promote a positive HSW culture.
- Competence in incident investigation.
- Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
- Ability to prepare formal written reports on HSW topics.
- Ability to undertake project planning and project management.
- Demonstrates commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty.
- Broad experience of complex construction and civils project (or equivalent sector).
- Ability to engage and converse at all levels.
