What You’ll Do

As an Assistant Controller, you’ll play a key leadership role within the Finance team, partnering closely with the Controller to ensure accurate, timely, and audit-ready financials. Your work will directly support scalable operations, strong internal controls, and informed decision-making in a fast-growing, multi-state organization. You will:

  • Bring fresh ideas to the table—we’re all about innovation and continuous improvement in our accounting processes and controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support budgeting, reporting, and business insights.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Staff Accountant team through coaching, feedback, and review of reconciliations and work papers.
  • Own and ensure timely, accurate month-end and year-end close, including preparation and review of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain ownership of key balance sheet accounts, ensuring all schedules reconcile to the general ledger and are fully supported.
  • Prepare and consolidate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Maintain audit‑ready schedules, prepaid and accrual roll forwards, and standardized documentation at all times.
  • Support external and internal audits by managing requests and providing timely, accurate documentation.
  • Own sales tax registrations, filings, and ongoing compliance across multiple jurisdictions using Tax Jar.
  • Monitor nexus thresholds, manage new state registrations, and ensure timely remittance.
  • Analyze financial results, trends, and variances to support forecasting, budgeting, and leadership decision‑making.
  • Assist with financial presentations for executive leadership and the Board, as well as ad hoc projects as needed.

What You Bring

We’re looking for a hands‑on accounting leader who values strong controls, clarity, and continuous improvement. You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • A passion for maintaining high‑quality, audit‑ready financials in a growing organization.
  • A collaborative, team‑first mindset with experience leading and developing junior accountants.
  • Strong accountability—you set clear expectations, follow through, and hold others to a high standard.
  • A process‑driven approach with a focus on documentation, controls, and scalability.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
Must Haves
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; high‑growth, SaaS, fintech, or benefits experience preferred.
  • Prior experience leading or reviewing work performed by junior accounting staff.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, balance sheet management, and month‑end close processes.
  • Experience with sales tax compliance and multistate operations.
  • Proficiency with Quick Books Advanced or similar accounting systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization skills, and documentation standards.
Nice to Have
  • Experience working in a SOC I, SOC II, or PCI‑regulated environment.
  • Advanced financial reporting, Power BI, or data‑driven analysis experience.
  • Experience supporting audits and working directly with external auditors.
