Our Technology team has 6 different departments:
Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain.

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in Pet Smart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.

About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment: At Pet Smart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.

Manager – Data Technology

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager to lead our Data Technology team. As the Manager of Data Technology, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our data-driven organization and contribute significantly to our success. This role is focused on leadership, team development, operational execution, and organizational alignment, while maintaining a solid understanding of enterprise data and analytics technologies.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who can inspire teams, manage priorities, support financial and vendor responsibilities, and drive business-focused outcomes across a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Data Technology engineers, fostering engagement, accountability, and growth.
  • Partner with technology and business stakeholders to align priorities and deliver business-focused data solutions.
  • Drive team execution, operational excellence, and cross-functional collaboration across initiatives and support activities.
  • Support budget planning, vendor management, resource allocation, and financial accountability.
  • Promote strong communication, leadership presence, and a positive team culture aligned with Pet Smart values.
  • Maintain working knowledge of enterprise data, analytics, and cloud technologies to effectively support the team.
  • Accountable for project status, timelines and communication to stakeholders and executive leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment.
  • Partner with external vendors to augment resources and meet project demands effectively.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring expenditures are in line with business objectives and goals.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading and developing technical or operational teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adept communication, collaboration, coaching, and organizational leadership skills.
  • Experience managing priorities, budgets, vendors and operational delivery.
  • Business-oriented mindset with the ability to balance people leadership, execution, and financial responsibility.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data and analytics platforms such as Micro Strategy, Sigma, Tableau, Power BI, Tibco, Cleo Harmony, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and technologies, such as Google Cloud, AWS or Azure, and their data services.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data management, and data governance principles.
  • Experience in large enterprise, retail, or technology environments preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in software development, data engineering, or machine learning.
  • 2+ years of experience managing teams of engineers, data scientists, and analysts.
