Pay: $0.75 - $0.90 per minute
Position Overview:
The Mbay Telephone Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand and rendering accurate, real‑time translation between Mbay (MLB) and English. The interpreter works with a wide range of industries, including health care, 911, first responders, education, government agencies, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and commercial services.
- Respond promptly to interpreting sessions and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
- Render correct concepts and meanings following established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and remain calm when callers are incoherent, upset, or experiencing emergency situations.
- Maintain punctuality, availability during work hours, and client instructions in compliance with protocol.
- Follow client instructions to ensure expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP) and avoid unauthorized interaction with the LEP.
- Understand industry terminology across medical, insurance, finance, and law fields.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
- Provide uninterrupted service during high‑volume or emotionally stressful calls; remain on for extended periods if required.
- Fluent in Mbay and English with strong cultural competency.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills.
- Ability to concentrate, remain detached, neutral, and objective during sensitive conversations.
- Preferred experience or education in language‑related fields (teaching, assessment, translation, or interpretation).
- At least 18 years of age.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred ability to read and write both languages.
- Dedicated personal device (desktop/laptop, tablet, or smartphone) compatible with Windows, MacOS, Chrome
OS, or Android/iPadOS. - High‑speed Internet: ≥5
Mbps download, ≥3
Mbps upload, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms. - Quiet, distraction‑free workspace.
- Proficiency operating company software and systems.
- Operation of keyboard and mouse with stationary position for majority of day.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to type or write.
- Ability to lift up to 26lbs.
