Jobsummary
MLT Aikins is looking for a Litigation Legal Assistant responsible for providing practice management and administrative support as part of a team of lawyers and paralegals performing BC-based debt recovery litigation work as part of a broader litigation practice. Our ideal candidate is highly organized, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, can follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrives in a fast-paced, professional environment.
Hybrid remote work is available for this position.
Responsibilities include:- Proactively meeting with lawyers and the Paralegal Team Lead to understand new workflows and identify upcoming deadlines
- Maintaining an efficient digital file system and matter status information, utilizing strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Preparing and editing correspondence and legal documents
- Preparing and managing direct correspondence with clients regarding file status, documentation requirements, court processes and next steps, under direction
- Coordinating and executing document workflow including editing, compiling, printing, indexing and binding court documents
- Filing documents with courts following defined procedures and deadlines
- Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a legal assistant in a BC-based litigation practice
- Experience in foreclosure or debt recovery litigation work is an asset
- Solid understanding of litigation process and court rules and procedures
- Confidence to communicate professionally and effectively
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to track status of multiple matters and manage deadlines proactively
