The Role:

As HTM Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant day‑to‑day operation of an HTM vehicle workshop. You will lead and manage workshop staff, ensuring all servicing, inspections, repairs and maintenance are carried out to the highest standards, in line with manufacturer guidance, statutory requirements and Hampshire County Council policies. Working closely with the Area Workshop Manager, you will contribute to consistent service delivery, customer satisfaction, financial control and continuous improvement across the workshop network.

What you’ll do:
  • Manage the daily operation of the workshop, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation, transport law and county council policies.
  • Act as on‑site technical lead, providing expert guidance across a broad range of vehicles, plant and manufacturers.
  • Plan, schedule and oversee servicing, inspections and repairs to maintain fleet roadworthiness and availability.
  • Allocate work and manage workflow to deliver agreed service times and quality standards.
  • Act as Responsible Manager for site Health & Safety, including LOLER and PUWER compliance.
  • Lead, manage and develop workshop staff and apprentices, addressing performance, wellbeing and training needs.
  • Maintain accurate statutory, inspection and maintenance records and ensure audit readiness.
  • Monitor budgets, control costs and support accurate KPI and performance reporting.
  • Liaise with customers, manufacturers and suppliers on technical issues and service delivery.
  • Ensure workshop readiness for emergency standby and winter maintenance operations.
What we’re looking for:
  • Proven experience managing or supervising staff in a vehicle maintenance or engineering environment.
  • Strong Health & Safety knowledge, including Duty of Care and transport legislation.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication and customer liaison abilities.
  • Competent IT skills, including fleet management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Adaptability, resilience, and effective decision‑making under pressure.
  • Experience driving LGV or D1 vehicles is desirable.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
Benefits:
  • Comprehensive induction and ongoing training.
  • Supportive, collaborative, and inclusive working environment.
  • Opportunities for career development and progression.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including the possibility of occasional home working (with approval).
  • Holiday entitlement of 25 days, raising to 28 days after 5 years of service.
