Job Summary

Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborates with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and student-centric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidence-based student enrolment and retention, wellness and well-being, development and academic support programs and services.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost, Student Engagement and Success, the Director, Student Success Centre is the senior leadership position for Student Affairs on the Agricultural Campus and works collaboratively with Student Affairs colleagues and partners as well as the Campus Principal and Faculty Dean to support students’ academic success and enhance the student experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Student Affairs strategic plan, along with all applicable aspects of operational roll-out including financial planning, assessment and reporting, playing a key role for the Agricultural Campus.
  • Develop and implement strategic, operational and project plans focused on the delivery of inclusive and innovative programming and services for students, providing oversight and leadership from an equity-minded lens.
  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for the Student Success Centre on the Agricultural Campus, including accountability for all aspects of management for regular and sessional staff (unionized and non-unionized), and student leaders/employees.
  • Build key partnerships and working relationships with student leaders and faculty partners to support students’ academic success.
  • Responsible for all aspects of financial management for the Student Success operating budget.
  • Note

    The incumbent will be required to work some evenings and weekends. The incumbent will be required to travel to Halifax on occasion with travel reimbursed in accordance with university policies.

    The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

    Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in related field, plus at least ten (10) years’ progressive leadership experience in a multi-disciplinary environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically with experience as a leader in change management and innovation.
  • Proven supervisory experience as well as experience developing the skills, attitudes and behaviours needed to produce new or improved programs, services, outputs and strategies.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills, and the demonstrated ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated resource and process management experience along with demonstrated ability to manage accountability for performance and results is required.
  • Proven leadership experience in equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

  • Experience in Student Affairs and/or post secondary environment.
  • Experience supervising unionized staff.
