Staff Nurse (Temporary, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - 10E)
Michigan Medicine, an academic medical center located in Ann Arbor, MI, is seeking a pediatric ICU nurse for a unit-based temporary position. The PICU is a 30-bed monitored ICU located on the 10th floor of the new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. The unit serves children from newborn to young adult in a multidisciplinary setting with technologies including ECMO, nitric oxide, high‑frequency ventilation, and CRRT.
Family‑centered care with family presence in rounds, nursing reports, and overnight stays is encouraged. PICU participates in the NACHRI collaborative to improve quality and outcomes.
Unit‑based, temporary Registered Nurse working in the PICU, providing complex assessments and high‑intensity therapies, with responsibilities for child and family care in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities- Care for children and families requiring complex assessments and high‑intensity therapies and interventions.
- Recognize subtle changes in a patient’s status and implement rapid, vigilant nursing care to prevent deterioration.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, surgery, specialties, and support services.
- Provide education to patients and families and support family‑centered care practices.
- Maintain ICU equipment and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Current, state of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
- Recent pediatric ICU RN experience required.
- Ability to stand, walk, position, pull, and lift heavy patients and objects for long periods of time.
- Resume required for all applicants.

- ACLS
- PALS
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication.
- Experience with patient and family‑centered care principles.
- Progressive leadership skills (Charge Nurse or Preceptor experience).
- Ability to delegate work to assistive personnel.
These temporary positions do not qualify for UMHS benefits and are negotiated at the department level. They are not covered by the Michigan Nurses Association collective bargaining agreement. Employees who work 400 hours in a calendar year transition to Per Diem status and may be required to pay dues. Temporary APRN or MVC employees are not eligible for Per Diem status.
WorkingConditions
Shift and hours to be determined upon hire. The unit is on the 10th floor of the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, pediatric intensive care unit. Hybrid, mobile, or remote work mode is at the discretion of the hiring department.
Additional InformationPer Diem/Unit‑Based Temporary Nurse Guidelines:
Per Diem and unit‑based temporary nurses may be scheduled for weekend shifts, off‑shifts, and holiday shifts according to unit scheduling requirements. See the department for specific guidelines.
