We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who can stand together with us as we help our students and their path to success.

As the 6th Grade English and Social Studies teacher, you will design and implement a challenging, student-centered program in your classes. You will develop students’ literacy skills—including reading, writing, speaking, and listening—while fostering an understanding of history, geography, and culture to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. You will make connections between topics of study and the world around them.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Plans a program of study that meets learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Matches activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs.
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Uses a consistent, fair, and supportable grading system.
  • Tests and evaluates students’ abilities and progress.
  • Prepares report cards and progress reports.
  • Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through phone calls, email, and occasional in-person meetings throughout the school year.
  • Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
  • Completes required paperwork in specified time and manner.
  • Conducts appropriate assessments of students’ work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable.
  • Supervises students in out-of‑classroom activities as assigned.
  • Attends Outdoor School as assigned.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or email.
  • Promptly reports any serious accident or illness affecting students in the teacher’s charge or any incident that might affect the school, teachers or students therein.
  • Attends all required meetings.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
  • Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator.
  • Attends work regularly and is punctual.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four‑year college or university.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Prior successful experience teaching students in a middle school setting strongly preferred.
  • Must have a valid teacher’s license and subject‑specific endorsement(s) through the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) or ability to obtain the needed endorsements.
  • At least one year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
