Position Summary Rainier High School is seeking a versatile, community-minded, and safety-focused CTE Instructor to lead our hands-on shop and industrial technology program. The successful candidate will manage a fully equipped high school shop classroom featuring wood production tools, welding systems (MIG/TIG/Stick), and a CNC plasma/router cutter. The instructor will cultivate a strong safety culture, provide industry-aligned project-based instruction, and lead an active, co-curricular Career and Technical Student Organization (either FFA or Skills
USA, depending on candidate certification). Job Details:
* 180 day contract (7 hours/day, 5 days/week)

Key Responsibilities Shop Instruction & Tech Integration
* Teach comprehensive hands-on courses in Wood Production, Welding/Metal Fabrication, and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining/cutting.
* Integrate modern manufacturing software (CAD/CAM) alongside manual design layout skills to prepare students for current industry expectations.
* Develop, implement, and rigorously enforce an industry-standard shop safety program, mandating 100% student compliance on safety assessments before tool use.
* Maintain, service, and inventory shop tooling, machinery, dust collection systems, and raw materials. General Public School Teacher Obligations
* Plan, deliver, and assess culturally responsive, student-centered lessons aligned with Washington State K-12 Learning Standards and approved OSPI CTE Frameworks.
* Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grading, and leadership hours using the district's Student Information System.
* Collaborate with Special Education and 504 coordinators to implement accommodations, modifications, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) seamlessly within a shop environment.
* Participate in building-level professional development, staff meetings, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
* Manage classroom behavior proactively, establishing a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive learning climate. Extended Learning & Leadership (Pathway-Dependent)
* Serve as an advisor for the programmatic Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO): *
- If hired under Ag Pathway:
Advise the FFA Chapter and supervise Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE).
* If hired under Trades/STS Pathway:
Advise the Skills
USA Chapter and coordinate local/regional skills competitions. Qualifications & Certifications Candidates must meet the statutory certification guidelines established by the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) and OSPI prior to the first day of contracted instruction.
* CTE Teaching Certificate:
Must hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid Washington State CTE Teacher Certificate issued by OSPI.
* V-Code Endorsement:
Must hold (or be eligible to obtain) one of the following CTE endorsements based on your qualification path: * - V010000 (Agriculture Education):
Aligned with Agriculture program frameworks, including Agriculture Mechanics and General Agriculture.
* V480000 (Skilled & Technical Sciences) /V210100 (Technology Education):
Aligned with Manufacturing, Construction, Welding, or Trade & Industrial frameworks.
* Safety & Background Clearance:
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain immediately) and successful completion of a WSP/FBI fingerprint background check. Preferred Skills & Attributes
* Proficiency running a CNC cutting machine (plasma/router) and familiarity with modern design software (such as Fusion
360, AutoCAD, or Solid Works).
* Prior experience managing a dual-purpose (wood/metal) educational shop space, including hazardous waste protocols and machine guarding safety regulations.
* Excellent communication and relational skills with the ability to bridge connections between high school students and local industry employers. Requirements:
* Strong content knowledge and training in child development and area(s) of endorsement.
* Demonstrated proficiency in written, oral, and digital communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to build positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
* Knowledge of current state education codes, district policies, and student privacy laws (FERPA).
* Knowledge of and experience with state-mandated testing, progress monitoring, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
* Ability to develop, modify, scaffold, and adjust curriculum and instruction to meet the individual learning and behavioral needs of students, including accommodations and interventions.
