Job Summary
As part of a design team, the primary responsibilities of the Engineer, Land Development include small and large infrastructure planning and design, assisting with site development planning and conceptual sketches, stormwater design and permitting, pavement evaluations and designs, site and facilities design, commercial site development layouts, utility system design, and related services. Duties also include generating engineering reports, preparing project specifications, assisting and guiding the entitlement process for zoning and future land use changes, monitoring the entitlement process and permit applications (city, county, and state), and providing engineering oversight during construction.
This position is based in either AVCON's Orlando or DeLand office.
- Assist in various design elements to complete projects, components, or systems with other team members with clear and specific objectives involving conventional types of plans, surveys, investigations, structures, and/or equipment.
- Assist in the preparation of complete project documentation to include plans, specifications, and engineer estimates, including the collection, assembly, and organization of project data.
- Evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to project assignments; formulate and solve problems with guidance and direction.
- Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering work; work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects using time efficiently to stay within budget and deliver on time.
- Assist in the preparation of project scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules.
- Assist with proposals including bid documents, project reports, studies, and other documentation.
- Receive general direction on key objectives; receive guidance when necessary on unconventional or complex programs, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
- Interact and collaborate with clients, contractors, and other project team members.
- Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments or projects.
- Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
- 2–5 years' experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Working knowledge of Storm Wise.
- Working knowledge of EPANET, Water
CAD, Storm
CAD or similar software. - Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.
- Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office environment under pressure of heavy deadlines.
- Knowledge of correct English usage including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Valid driver's license and maintenance of a satisfactory driving record.
- Florida Professional Engineer licensure or Engineer in Training (EIT) with ability to obtain licensure within 36 months of hire.
