Overview

The Journeyman Sheet Metal Welder should be proficient in MIG welding light gauge sheet metal ductwork both round and rectangular. These duties will be performed out of position in a construction project setting using MEWPs. The incumbent is responsible for determining materials and consumables required for this role and reporting project needs to the superintendent in a timely manner. Materials include but are not limited to shielding gas, wire type, wire size, and specific PPE needs.

Incumbent performs this work within an established time frame and ensures compliance with quality standards, project man‑hours, and company safety guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Proficient in MIG welding 16 ga carbon steel, 18 ga stainless steel, and 18 ga galvanized – familiar with D9.1 standards
  • Tig welding (preferred, not required)
  • Familiar with operating scissor lifts
  • Setting up and tearing down welding equipment daily
  • Filling out required permits daily
  • Install and fit‑up of material to be welded
  • Working in the elements
Qualifications Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4 or more years of experience and meets requirements
  • Ability to keep welding equipment and accessories in good working condition
  • Reading of blueprints and schematics
  • Knowledge of welding machine (oil, fuel, etc.), torches, helix arc equipment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (CDL)
  • Need basis tools to perform job (hood, gloves, etc.)
  • Must be able to report to assigned job site location on time as directed
  • Assist in safe rigging of materials for installations
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail‑oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast‑paced environment
  • Well versed in the industry and the company’s competitors
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary

  • 0–5% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
  • Climb ladders of all types
  • Job may require working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain or snow
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta‑Johns)
  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders up to 14’, “A” frame ladders and all size extension ladders, and must be able to carry and relocate a 12’ stepladder by oneself)
  • Must wear personal protective equipment at all times (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers
  • This position may work with energized circuits or in/with energized equipment
  • Ability to remain calm in heightened emotional situations
  • Must work smoothly with others as a member of a team to complete tasks
  • Must transition from employee parking area of street into construction areas and gain access to all levels of the building or structure, even if the only means of access is by OSHA‑approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use
  • Ability to work in noisy environments
  • Work in restrictive/tight areas (switch gear rooms, crawl spaces, utility tunnels, etc.)
  • Ability to work while constantly moving on one’s feet
  • Possess good vision/hearing (normal or corrected)
  • Ability to reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
  • Must have ability to use both hands simultaneously for tying knots and in use of power equipment
  • Ability to lift by one’s self‑work loads of 51 lbs
  • Job requires employee to have required hand tools at all times while at work site (waist tool belts can weigh up to 30 lbs)
Pay Range

USD  24.28 - USD  32.44 /Hr
