What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon‑led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the construction of Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site. The role reports to the responsible General Superintendent – Mechanical and will support work within the Mechanical work stream including key nuclear steam supply components on the turbine side (stator, turbine, condenser and generator).

What You'll Do Here:

Accountable for work planning and execution on the project, including methods of construction, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals, and work schedules.

Ensure alignment and partnership with the alliance partners.

Monitor and review plans/schedules and identify risks and issues.

Utilize the project master schedule to create detailed look‑ahead schedules for General Foreman.

Responsible for the implementation and enforcement of safety, quality and human performance programs.

Ensure that Aecon policies and project procedures are adhered to and followed by project personnel.

Monitor and manage risks, develop recovery strategies when the project schedule or budget are in jeopardy.

Assume responsibility for productivity of direct‑hire trade labour and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and tools & equipment, and contractual performance of the project.

Support applicable trade agreements.

Apply home company discipline policies and appropriately escalates performance concerns to the Construction Manager.

Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner‑specified requirements.

Review and provide support in the creation of Construction Work Packages.

Ensure the project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Construction Work Packages, and project schedule and budget.

Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, and others.

Ensure the project is constructed in accordance with QA Programs and project quality.

Perform regular field tours to check work progress and meet with project site personnel.

Carry out site safety inspections.

Participate in company‑wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement.

Review and approve timesheets, expense reports, vacation requests, and training requests within limits of authority.

Perform performance management of all direct‑report employees, including coaching/mentoring, assistance with career planning and training, and preparation of yearly and mid‑year performance reviews.

Ensure all project staff and direct reports understand and comply with applicable code of conduct policies (Aecon and customer policy).

Perform other duties as required or assigned.

What You Bring to the Team:

Minimum of 7 years mechanical construction and subcontractor supervision experience.

3 years reactor refurbishment and assembly experience is an asset.

Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements, jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements.

Understanding of supporting a positive nuclear safety culture.

Ability to plan and manage installation sequences, coordinate with engineering to ensure constructability, and communicate updates to project teams and vendors.

Experience in managing complex nuclear construction projects.

Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints and specifications.

Full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.

Pay range: $155,000 - $165,000 per year
