DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide client‑centred addiction, mental health, and general nursing care in the Residential Withdrawal Management Services (RWMS) unit.

Ensure the security and safety of clients and maintain College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards of practice.

Work collaboratively with addictions counsellors, consulting nurse practitioners, and addiction medicine physicians.

Act as the sole nurse on shift 24/7, contributing to the unit’s treatment approach.

Perform assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate interprofessional care plans.

Participate in role development activities such as contacting or shadowing nurses in other residential withdrawal programs, learning community resources, developing daily routines and protocols, and contributing to policy review.

Provide client education, share knowledge of expected outcomes and care, and document care consistently.

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and perform essential nursing duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.

Registered Practical Nurse diploma from an accredited community college.

Current B.C.L.S. certificate.

Completion of a mental health nursing certificate (or equivalent continuing education).

Completion of a prevention and management of aggressive behaviour programme through Lakeridge Health or equivalent.

Current Medication Administration Certificate and related medication knowledge and administration experience (within the last year).

Suboxone training course completed or commitment to complete (online) within six months of hire.

Fundamentals of addiction course completed or commitment to complete (online) within six months of hire.

Recent experience with diabetes care and health teaching (preferred).

Recent experience with wound care (preferred).

Ability to lift, turn, and transfer clients using mechanical lifts.

Demonstrated skills in providing client education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care.

Evidence of sound organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to perform well in stressful situations.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.

Commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers, and other community members.

Commitment to Lakeridge Health’s comprehensive safety programmes and participation in regular in‑service education sessions.
