DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) on the OC7 Medical Unit will use the nursing process in providing patient care according to the standards and current scope of practice as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the policies of Lakeridge Health. The RPN will participate as a member of the Health Care Team by conducting assessments, monitoring patients’ medical status, supporting other team members in decision making, ensuring accuracy in clinical documentation of patient care needs, and participating in quality improvement initiatives relevant to the unit and organization as required.
The RPN will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice and other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college
Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
Coronary CareI course (or equivalent) required or enrollment in the next available Lakeridge Health Telemetry course and successful completion upon hire
Current BCLS certification
Current Medication Certificate meeting the standards of practice established by the CNO
Recent experience in Acute Medicine and/or similar environment
Updated Health/Patient Assessment courses preferred
Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO
Effective organizational, interpersonal, problem‑solving, prioritization, time‑management, and teaching skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good public relations and effective working relationships in a family‑centred environment
Ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations
Satisfactory performance record
