Overview: This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the technology, commercial, and industrial market sector, supporting grid projects such as overhead transmission lines, while building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Structural engineering technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports engineering teams under general supervision
- Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
- Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
- Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians
- Stays current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures
- Applies knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
- Uses and expands applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures
- Creates and develops project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs
- Performs basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
- Coordinates deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences
- Supports internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers
- Proactively seeks out, shares, and applies knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Diploma or Certificate preferred
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
Minimum Qualifications:
- Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience
- Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- Typical office environment; prolonged periods of sitting and computer use; focus and attention to detail throughout the workday
- Physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments
