As an Artist Year Ameri Corps Volunteer Fellow participating in a National Service term, responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
• A full-time (40 hours) service week in a K-12 school, inclusive of:
Teaching time and school common time hours; communication, meeting, planning and preparation hours;
Partnership cultivation and arts program development planning time;
Student performance or exhibition hours;
Training and professional development requirements for school site and Artist Year;
Artist Year obligations and responsibilities. Most service hours take place Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm;
Hours may include evening and weekend times.
• Full attendance and participation in all required professional development/training requirements, including the Artist Year Orientation and Training Institute.
• Designing and implementing arts activities and creative learning strategies that encourage student engagement and artistic skill. This content and pedagogy will meet the needs and desires of school partners and students as well as the standards of Artist Year.
• Preparing and executing required community arts projects.
• Regular communication, meetings and collaboration with parents, school staff members, and the Artist Year leadership.
• Completing required documentation and records for school site and Artist Year, such as daily virtual standup participation, communication responsibilities, evaluation and assessment protocols, lesson plans, mid-year and year-end reflections, and member graduation requirements.
• On-time submission of all required timesheets and data collection reports.
• Completing evaluation tasks.
• Receiving and implementing regular and supportive feedback from Artist Year leadership and/or school site supervisor on performance.
Experienced artists are placed as Artist Year Ameri Corps Members in a Title I partner school to use art as a catalyst for positive student and school outcomes. Members deliver arts education via a variety of modalities, including in-classroom instruction, pull-out instruction, and arts clubs during and after school.
