The Role

The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery and solar technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of the Thermal Architecture team, you are the design lead that defines and designs the thermal systems that make Tesla Energy products world class. This role involves collaboration with designers, engineering, manufacturing, firmware and service and requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to model and design thermal systems that are at the core of Tesla's success. * Develop thermal models to simulate system performance
* Lead creation of component specifications, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents
* Support energy programs through the entire life cycle including; spec development, prototype builds, test, and production
* Mechanical design and packaging of HVAC components to meet system requirements while optimizing for efficiency, cost, manufacturability and serviceability
* Develop and execute component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods to validate product adherence to requirements

Essential Skills

* Experience modeling, testing or designing thermal components, fans, pumps, fluid connections, heat sinks, heat exchangers
* Working knowledge of HVAC systems including compressors, HVAC units, fluid transfer components, and performance testing
* Fluency in the use of analytical simulation tools for thermal analysis, such as Matlab and CFD software


* BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering - all experience levels considered
* Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
* Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult thermal design problems
* Design, packaging and 3D modeling skills - CATIA preferred
* Ability to view a the thermals system as a component in the larger system and understand the big picture
* Passion for renewable energy
