Job Summary: The Executive Director, Bay Area Foundation Laboratories is responsible for overall operations, administration and coordination of services provided by the Foundation laboratories. This position oversees the day-to-day activities and resources of the Bay Area Foundation Laboratories, enabling them to provide high quality, cost-efficient laboratory services to ambulatory patients. Serves as the primary on-site administrative leader in regard to developing, maintaining and administering laboratory operational policies, processes and procedures. Working within the direction provided by the SH VP of Laboratory Services, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, monitoring, controlling, coordinating, integrating, standardizing, assessing and improving the day-to-day operations of the Bay Area Foundation Laboratories.

In partnership with the Foundation Laboratory Medical Director, is responsible for ensuring overall operational and administrative compliance of the Bay Area Foundation Laboratories in accordance with federal requirements under CLIA-88, College of American Pathologists (CAP), the State of California and/or any other related regulatory or accrediting body affecting clinical activities of the laboratory. Assures that lab services are quality focused, progressive, competitive, customer service oriented and effectively integrated with other components (physicians, hospitals, health plans, etc.) of the Sutter Health System (System) and Sutter Health Lab Network.

As a member of the SH Laboratory Executive Team (LET), works within the direction of the VP of Laboratory Services and in tandem with the SH Laboratory Chief Medical Officer, the Bay Area Acute Laboratory Executive and Valley Area Laboratory Executives. Is a key contributor to enterprise-wide laboratory strategic and business plans that align with affiliate/operating unit plans, while also addressing unique needs/opportunities in the lab space. In collaboration with the SH LET, and in coordination with Sutter's overall strategic plan and clinical quality goals, develops and implements operational changes related to profitable business growth throughout the enterprise.

LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATIVE OVERSIGHT OF CLINICAL LABORATORY OPERATIONS:

* Provides overall direction and management for the day-to-day activities and resources of the Foundation Laboratories
* Directs and manages Clinical Laboratory Services operations for the Foundation Laboratories, partnering effectively with the Laboratory Medical Director to ensure the continual provision of high quality laboratory testing.
* Participates in the evaluation, development, planning and implementation of new business/service to support the SH Laboratory Service Line business and clinical goals.
* Ensures laboratory procedures/systems are functioning at optimal levels and evaluates processes regularly for continual improvement.
* Ensures services are provided in an effective and timely manner. Ensures departmental procedures and processes are periodically reviewed for the potential to further improve the services provided.
* Implements plans and carries out activities related to clinical coordination, participating in clinical effectiveness projects for Foundation affiliates. Establishes effective physician (and other customer) forums to ensure high quality, cost effective and strong clinical performance.
* Collaborates with the SH Laboratory Executive Team (SH-LET) to establish annual Laboratory Service Line goals and objectives. Ensures services are integrated, optimally coordinated, and support the organization's mission and objectives.
* Participates in Laboratory Service Line strategic planning and prioritizing. Analyzes, determines, and coordinates service improvement and/or service development opportunities.
* Provides operational guidance to Foundation Care Centers in the development of improved and/or new laboratory point-of-care testing that is aligned with the SH Laboratory Service Line business and clinical goals.

Required: Bachelor's Clinical Lab Scientist License - CLS-L preferred.

* Prior demonstrated successful experience in a multi-structured health care institution or larger commercial laboratory is required
* Must have demonstrated professional experience in progressively responsible positions in healthcare with a strong working knowledge of laboratories

* Must have demonstrated success in major project coordination, implementation of successful cost containment initiatives
* Must have demonstrated success working collaboratively with staff, key stakeholders and customers to achieve strategic outcomes
* Experience applying Lean techniques and tools, as well as implementing a Lean Operating System within a Laboratory environment is preferred.
* Experience working in a matrixed reporting structure is preferred
