Summary Description of WorkThe Psychiatric Nurse provides professional psychiatric and medical nursing services within a Nebraska-licensed voluntary mental health crisis stabilization and respite program (CSRC). The Psychiatric Nurse ensures compliance with Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regulations, the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, and facility policies. The Psychiatric Nurse plans, implements, and evaluates programs of care and therapeutic interventions to meet the assessed needs of individuals served.
The Psychiatric Nurse supports stabilization, promotes wellness, coordinates care, and assists individuals and families in successful reintegration into the community. Services are delivered in a trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented, and person‑centered environment.
Compensation: Salary is determined by total years of relevant experience.
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed in the state of Nebraska as an RN.
- Two years of experience, preferably in a substance abuse or mental health behavioral health setting along with working knowledge of primary health care issues.
- Valid driver’s license / acceptable driving record.
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing assessments, including routine and urgent/emergent assessments as clinically indicated.
- Conduct physical health screenings and assess ongoing medical needs.
- Screen for health risks during initial nursing assessment and periodically thereafter.
- Identify medical or psychiatric conditions requiring referral, consultation, or transfer to a higher level of care.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized programs of nursing care and therapeutic intervention.
- Develop, implement, and update nursing care plans consistent with the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
- Provide management and administration of medications in collaboration with the CSRC psychiatric provider and other licensed providers.
- Administer medications in accordance with the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, licensed provider orders, and facility policies.
- Perform medication reconciliation at admission and discharge.
- Monitor therapeutic response, side effects, and overall medication effectiveness.
- Ensure secure storage and accurate documentation of medications, including controlled substances.
- Provide medication education to individuals and families as appropriate.
- Monitor vital signs and overall physical health status.
- Observe for behavioral or physiological indicators of substance use complications or mild withdrawal symptoms. The program does not operate as a detoxification facility; individuals requiring medical detox services will be referred or transferred in accordance with policy.
