About the Role:
The Pipe Fitter 2 plays a critical role in the manufacturing industry by assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems that are essential for the transport of liquids and gases. This position requires precision and technical expertise to ensure that all piping components meet safety and quality standards. The Pipe Fitter 2 will work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to interpret blueprints and specifications, ensuring accurate fabrication and installation.
This role demands a strong understanding of various pipe fitting techniques, including grinding and plasma cutting, to prepare and join pipes effectively. Ultimately, the Pipe Fitter 2 contributes to the seamless operation of manufacturing processes by ensuring reliable and durable piping infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited pipe fitting apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in pipe fitting within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices related to pipe fitting.
- Certification in welding or plasma cutting techniques.
- Experience with advanced pipe fitting tools and machinery.
- Knowledge of various piping materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, and plastic.
- Previous experience working in a unionized manufacturing setting.
- Additional training in blueprint reading or mechanical systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine pipe layout and installation requirements.
- Cut, thread, and assemble pipes using appropriate tools and techniques such as grinding and plasma cutting.
- Install piping systems in accordance with safety codes and company standards, ensuring leak-free and secure connections.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on existing piping systems to identify and repair defects or wear.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other tradespeople to coordinate work and resolve technical issues.
The required skills of grinding and plasma cutting are essential for preparing pipe ends and shaping materials to precise specifications, ensuring proper fit and secure connections. These skills are applied daily to cut pipes accurately and smooth edges to prevent leaks or structural weaknesses. Preferred skills such as welding certification enhance the ability to join pipes effectively, improving the quality and durability of installations.
Blueprint reading skills enable the Pipe Fitter 2 to understand complex piping layouts and execute installations according to design requirements. Strong communication and teamwork skills facilitate collaboration with other trades and supervisors to maintain workflow efficiency and safety compliance.
