Are you an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon ready to take on a new challenge and apply your specialised skills in Hand and Wrist surgery in a new environment?
As our new Consultant at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, you will have the opportunity to embark on a 6-month fixed-term journey toward developing further your expertise and improving the services we are providing. This position may potentially, become a full-time role.
You will join a team of 25 Consultants in providing a wide range of elective and acute services at Peterborough City Hospital. Cross-site working at Hinchingbrooke Hospital may be required to provide elective service. Day care elective surgery is conducted at both facilities.
As a specialist surgeon, you will collaborate with the existing Hand and Wrist Consultant team and maintain liaison with the Plastic Surgery team.
You will demonstrate passion for hand surgery and evidence sub-specialist experience in facial surgery, dupuytren and joint fusions. Post-CCT experience in hand and wrist surgery, including relevant fellowship experience, are essential.
Main duties of the jobThe sessional commitments of 10 Pas are divided into 6 fixed clinical sessions averaging 3 Outpatient Clinics, and 3 Theatre sessions per week. You will participate in the provision of acute services on a 1:10 weekday (Mon - Friday) on call within a paired system and a 1:20 weekend based at Peterborough City Hospital.
The role involves taking full clinical responsibility for a wide range of elective and emergency Orthopaedic patients, both children and adults, and liaise with specialist centres when appropriate. You will participate in the management of acute hand injuries with a commitment to the hand trauma list.
You will be expected to take a lead role in Medical Student Education. Experience in delivering high quality student education would be an advantage. Therefore, you will supervise and manage Junior Medical Staff and deliver teaching and training programmes to Junior Medical Staff, Allied Healthcare Professionals and Medical Students.
You will be required to demonstrate excellent team working, flexibility, adaptability and be able to integrate into a strong cohesive team to deliver operational performance. In addition, you will participate in all departmental activities including audit, clinical governance, and research.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications- MBBS
- FRCS Intercollegiate or equivalent
- ATLS course
- Full GMC Registration
- MD or MS
- ALS Certificate
- CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of Appointments Advisory Committee
- Evidence of completed and published research
- Instigated, designed and completed audit projects and protocols
- Evidence of having supervised and supported research students
- Thorough and broad training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
- Specific fellowship training in hand surgery
- Experience in Orthopaedic Trauma management
- Teaching at post and undergraduate levels
- Ability to take full responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Attended a course in NHS leadership
- Commitment to continuing medical education
