Inspire Education Group is looking for a motivated and industry-experienced Engineering Assessor in Engineering to join the Apprenticeship team at Peterborough College.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with apprentices and employers, supporting learners throughout their apprenticeship journey by providing coaching, mentoring and workplace assessment across engineering programmes.

About the Role

As a Skills Trainer Assessor, you will manage a caseload of apprentices and work‑based learners, supporting them to successfully achieve their apprenticeship standards and qualifications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality coaching, assessment and mentoring to engineering apprentices
  • Carrying out workplace assessments and reviews with learners and employers
  • Supporting apprentices to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours
  • Monitoring learner progress and implementing timely interventions where required
  • Providing constructive feedback and setting SMART targets
  • Maintaining accurate learner records in line with funding and awarding body requirements
  • Working collaboratively with employers to ensure apprentices gain the required workplace experience
  • Supporting learners in preparation for assessments and End Point Assessment (EPA)
  • Promoting positive learner engagement, behaviour and wellbeing
  • Keeping up to date with industry developments and apprenticeship standards

The role will involve regular travel to employer sites and flexible working to meet the needs of learners and businesses.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about engineering and developing people within the industry.

You should have:

  • A Level 3 qualification (minimum) within a relevant engineering discipline
  • Recent industry experience within engineering
  • Strong practical and technical skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to motivate and support learners of varying abilities
  • English and maths qualifications at Level 2 or above

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Assessment and Quality Assurance qualifications (or willingness to work towards)
  • Experience assessing or supporting apprentices/work‑based learners
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and funding requirements
  • Confidence using digital systems and ILT within assessment and learning
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification or willingness to achieve this
