Payroll Specialist

Description We are looking for a dedicated Payroll Specialist to join our team in Piscataway, New Jersey. This long-term contract position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to payroll operations for a large and diverse workforce in the apparel manufacturing industry. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical abilities and experience handling payroll for both union and nonunion employees across multiple states.

Responsibilities:

- Manage payroll processing for approximately 3,000 employees, including union and nonunion staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

- Collaborate with third-party payroll processors to coordinate payment schedules and handle discrepancies.

- Utilize advanced Excel skills to analyze payroll data, generate reports, and streamline processes.

- Administer multistate payroll operations, including garnishments and tax compliance.

- Support timekeeping and attendance system management, ensuring data integrity and proper functionality.

- Assist in funding 401(k) contributions and oversee retirement plan file submissions.

- Respond to payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly and effectively.

- Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for payroll processes.

- Provide support for leave of absence administration and handle related documentation.

- Participate in ad hoc payroll projects to optimize efficiency and enhance operations. Requirements - Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, including managing payroll for a workforce of over 500 employees.

- Proficiency in multistate payroll operations, including union and nonunion employee management.

- Strong knowledge of payroll systems, with experience in Kronos Timekeeping and UKG Pro preferred.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.

- Familiarity with 401(k) administration and compliance requirements.

- Expertise in handling payroll garnishments and resolving discrepancies.

- Ability to develop and maintain detailed documentation for payroll procedures.

- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
