Primary
Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
- Bachelor's Degree, Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned;
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned. - ESL Certification required for Pre‑K and elementary teaching positions, including Special Education (not including elementary art, music, and PE teachers).
- ESL Certification required for Middle school English/Language Arts teaching positions, grades 6‑8, including Special Education.
- ESL Certification required for High school English/Language Arts teaching positions, grades 9‑12, including Special Education.
- Special Education Certification required for all teachers at an Early Childhood campus.
- Knowledge of core academic subjects assigned, curriculum and instruction; ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience:
At least one year of student teaching or approved internship.
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
- Present the subject matter according to guidelines set by Texas Education Agency and board policies.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology reflecting accommodation for individual needs.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula according to IEP guidelines.
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Cooperate with staff for planning and implementing instructional goals.
- Participate in staff development activities.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports and records.
- Plan and supervise assignments for assistant(s) or volunteer(s).
- Integrate technology in teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement via formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Select appropriate instructional materials.
- Be a positive role model and support the district mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Maintain a conducive learning environment.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline per policies.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and materials.
Communication
- Maintain open communication with students, parents, principals, and colleagues.
- Present information accurately and clearly.
- Keep principal fully informed of classroom conditions and new techniques.
Professional Growth and Development
- Attend faculty meetings and work sessions.
- Follow rules, regulations, and policies of Plano ISD.
- Follow attendance policy.
- Perform additional functions assigned by administration or supervisor.
- Maintain professional judgment and responsibility.
- Promote professional improvement through reading journals, research, course enrollment, staff development, and professional organization membership.
Policy Implementation
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, district philosophy, and board policies.
- Keep informed of and comply with regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned classroom assistant(s).

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
