Associate Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Associate Mechanical Engineer based in either the Plymouth or Exeter office. The role involves leading large‑scale, complex projects, managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring technical delivery.

• Client‑facing role: attend project meetings and disseminate the brief to the team.
• Lead the development of initial strategic concepts for projects, ensuring solutions meet the brief and regulatory standards.
• Take responsibility for solid technical delivery in work either alone or as part of a team.
• Engage with junior support staff, offering advice and guidance to develop their skills.
• Participate in firm‑wide knowledge sharing and support dissemination of best practice.
• Help monitor fee expenditure, resources and work delivered in collaboration with the team leader.
• Explore new ways of working and take time for innovation and research to stay ahead of competitors.
• Maintain a high reputation within the industry and ensure adherence to quality management and risk control procedures.

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or closely related role on a variety of complex projects.
• Understanding of all mechanical services, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment with excellent communication skills.
• Proficient with relevant software/tools such as Revit and AutoCAD.
• Self‑awareness, open mind and spirit of generosity.
• Conversant with relevant British Standards.
• Consultancy experience, with appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering and computer modelling.
