DAYS: Twelve month employment

SALARY SCHEDULE: Rate of pay will be $20.14 per hour.

START DATE: As soon as possible.

Purpose of Class

To perform journeyman-level repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls; Operates and maintains Direct Digital Control System; performs related work as required.

Primary Function

To perform journeyman-level repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls; operates and maintains DDC control system; ensuring that all facilities are operating safely and effectively. Assist in the planning of future HVAC upgrades and assists in the monitoring of contracted HVAC upgrades. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Maintenance Foreman. This position regularly performs tasks wherever needed to maintain effective and efficient facilities and operations. The principal duties of this class are performed in an indoor environment, the position involves lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, and performing physically demanding and hazardous duties associated with HVAC systems, and occasionally dealing with adverse weather conditions in an outdoor environment. Driving to and from various district locations is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (will vary by assignment)

* Diagnose malfunctioning systems;
* Assists in the supervision of HVAC staff; creates and assigns work orders to HVAC staff;
* Repair and maintain HVAC equipment of many types;
* Repair and maintain boiler controls and burners;
* Repair and maintain steam valves, traps and condensate pumps;
* Perform scheduled inspection and preventative maintenance of HVAC equipment, boilers, pumps and cooling towers;
* Responsible for the monitoring the direct digital control system and to keep it updated;
* Maintain the control systems and the history of individual equipment and systems;
* Completes work orders, and accounts for purchase orders;
* Works with department purchasing clerk to order supplies, materials and tools;
* Help to maintain kitchen equipment and refrigeration;
* Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

* Responsible for assigned inventory;
* Cleans tools and shop at the end of shift;
* Cleans and maintains assigned district vehicle;
* Assists other trades as assigned;
* Performs other related duties as required.

Competency Requirements:

Knowledge of:

* Supervision and organization skills;
* Best methods and practices for the repair and maintenance of HVAC systems;
* Blueprints and electrical and pneumatic schematics;
* Building HVAC codes;
* OSHA and EPA requirements;

Ability to:

* Organize HVAC department;
* Diagnose malfunctioning systems;
* Repair and maintain HVAC mechanisms and parts;
* Performs preventative maintenance and routine inspections on HVAC systems and related devices;
* Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
* Establish priorities and work within time constraints and deadlines;
* Operate equipment and tools appropriate to complete assigned duties; (i.e. refrigeration gauges and scales, multimeters, amp meters, torches, computer and motor vehicle, etc.)
* Follow written and oral instructions;
* Communicate effectively and establish working relationships with users, other employees, administrators, and the public;
* Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling interruptions, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner;
* Work independently, with minimal supervision, and make appropriate decisions in the absence of a supervisor;

Acceptable Experience and Training

* High school diploma or GED equivalent; and
* Journeyman HVAC License;
* EPA Certification is required;
* Supervisory experience in commercial HVAC repair and maintenance preferred;
* Valid Idaho Driver's License;

Essential Physical Abilities

* Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to understand verbal instructions and to communicate effectively on two-way radio and in person;
* Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, repair and maintain HVAC systems, and organize documents and materials;
* Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard HVAC tools and equipment, repair and maintain HVAC systems and related equipment and to operate a motor vehicle;
* Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in various office/school locations with HVAC systems, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 50 lbs.
